A quick visit to Larunbe

At 1th February of 2009 I visited the small village of Larunbe, near my hometown. In fact it´s only 20kms. from Pamplona and there lived my friends Iratxe, Endika and his son Jon.

As you could see, I decided to do some pub´ with the jeep and added a pair of stickers with my logo at both doors!

Meeting the ol´ jeep owner!

Well, at 7th December of 2008, I meet the ol´ owner of my jeep, mr. V. Astibia from Garaioa, a small village in the route for Roncesvalles or Orreaga in Basque language. I wne there with my friend Juantxo, the same guy with who I discovered for first time the jeep

After two phone calls to his home, we arranged a meet and I have the opportunity of getting some more info about the jeep: that he bought it at least 15 years ago, that this was the cause of a disgust for his wife and that his daughter learned to drive with it...Amazing!!!! Also, that the dark green collor of its bodytub caused more than a scare to furtives fishermen as they thought the Spanish "Guardia Civil" (kindda rural police) was there to arrested them! He, he, he! Cool stories!

Also, mr. Astibia told me that he employed the rear PTO to work with the firewood. A real working machine!

That´s me posing with mr. Astibia.

2nd visit to the workshop!

...I think it was at November 2009, I´m not quite sure. This was due to checking againg the brake lines, and offer me just another chance to take more detail shots.

Kids love jeeps!

Kids love jeeps!

Sure, check the faces of those kids and you´ll understand it! They´re really enjoying the meeting with my "toy", Spanish made Willys-Viasa CJ3B jeep. You can´t ever find more happiness than that from my friend´s S. Orduna (Willys MB restorer and now Jeepster Commando proudly owner), Ibai and Andoni! These pics were taken last October, 2008.

And also the sons from my friend J. Ayala, Paula & Eduardo:

A cool video!

Enjoy the sound of the Perkins 4.203 diesel engine! This vid was recorded by my friend and fellow scale modeller Vicente Marro at 24/09/08:

Meeting with ol´vet...

Curiously, at a sunny 24th August 2008, I meet with my friends Teresa Nanclares and Andres Ibáñez, and also their quite nice Willys MB jeep, a real WW2 vet which Andrés bought some years ago at Bayonne, the French Basque country. This particular jeep was marked as belonging to the reconn unit of the Régiment de Marche du Tchad, 2éme DB or 2nd Free French Armored Division "Leclerc".

So, we go for a ride near our hometown in order to check our little toys.

Also, we meet with a couple of friends proud owners of a classic Mini! Nice car!

A real jeeping voyage!

Well, this is the first time I drove the jeep for a bunch of kilometers (90 I think), in a real paradisiac area near my hometown, the Ultzama. It was more or less the same area like this:

I remember we went there at 28/07/08.

These shots were taken when the caravan stopped at the village of the Irurtzun, and they shows the Willys M38 of Jesús del Amo, the Wrangler TJ of Ramiro Bendoiro, and the Doddge WC 57 Command Car of Juan Peláez. Also, my toy!

First time it meet with girls!

Well, after San Fermin party or "fiestas", I drove the jeep to show it to an couple of friends, Julia and Esther. And they seemed to enjoy the car! Photos copyright: Julia Erro.

A trip to the countryside

Probably this one was the most awaited trip to the country! At least for the jeep...as I drove the jeep alone for first time! I driven the vehicle to a nearest village of my hometown, Salinas de Pamplona. Nice shots I think!

This small trip was did at 17th July 2008, before San Fermines party.

A small driving at the city...and the first problem!

After getting the "ITV" OK, I called a couple of jeeper friends (kindda crazy as me!), mr. Jesús del Amo (owner of a well battered US Willys M38) and mr. Ramiro Bendoiro, who owns a pretty jeep Wrangler TJ and has a barb too. They helped me in order to give a driving lesson of how to drive a jeep in a few hours. This could be ressumed as..."Man, you´re driving a real car!"

We went through some streets at Mendebaldea, a local neighborhood of my hometown and then go to the outside, near the city, to drive on "real" roads...Well, I´ll never forget that after stopping at a local Irish pub, my friends asked for a couple of beers and me for a "tila"!!!!!

This happened at 30th June 2008.

Latest 3 pics show us at the industril area in which I learn to drive with the T90 tranny case. This means driving a tractor with only 3 speeds! A security guard from one of the factories asked us where I have got the jeep and when I told him it came from Willys-Viasa "CAF" at Saragosse, he replied us the jeep have accomplished its military service with Agustina the Aragon, a Spanish heroine of the Independence War (circa 1809) against Napoleon army, cause she fought and died at this city, Saragosse. What a sense of humor!!!

Well, after this and enjoying for first time my jeep, we decided to came back home. It was a brighty sunny afternoon and when I was very close to my parent´s home, the jeep "decided" to stop at an avenue. Oh, my Lord! What happened now? I called by cell phone to my friends and when they came back again to meet me, I learnt the first lesson: Drive ever with the gasoil tank totally full!!!

Then we must take out manually the air from the engine. From each injector to next injector...fortunately, there´s a bomb to do this! Ouch!

By the way, the "ITV" papers said: "Exent of Fumes"!
